3/5

Alright, I've gotta say, the sound on this saber is probably the most high quality of any of my sabers that I've bought before, but there are two primary reasons that I give this 3 stars. One, the blades are probably the most flimsy out of all of the baselit sabers I've bought, and the screws are smaller than any other for some reason, and the saber is overall just not as stable (not because it's double bladed). Two, the flash on clash is not very responsive, no matter if you hit hard or soft, or even if you use the app, that is not mentioned anywhere, to increase foc sensitivity. Actually, that brings up a couple more reasons. Every other saber I've had has had a detailed guide for setup and all the different capabilities of the saber. When I bought this one, nothing was clear, and I had no idea how to access the music that Theory Sabers is so proud of. I found basic guides for TXQ sabers in general online, but nothing that had all the attributes or ones that did but had incorrect button commands.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and for highlighting the sound quality of your saber. We truly appreciate your feedback.

We’re sorry to hear that your experience hasn’t met expectations in a few areas. While we don’t address product concerns directly through reviews, we want to ensure that any issues you’re encountering are properly resolved. Almost Perfect

Overall the Shadow Hunter is beautiful and feels great to handle.

Cons:
1) The sound really does get "overly" muffled when both sabers are connected. It seems like more experimenting with size and shape of sound holes is necessary. Would like to see a final version sold separately for past and future customers.
2) The primary and secondary buttons on both my sabers cannot fully screw in without permanently pressing on the internal circuitry which means the buttons are always pressed down. I'm going to carefully Loctite the buttons partially in place so they stay secure in place and allow contact with the circuit board to function.
3) Love the detailing allowing light to bleed though the upper portion of the hilt. I would adjust the design to allow a little more light to bleed through.

I'm just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.

Lives up to the hype

I was fortunate enough to win this saber, as I received a silver ticket during the April 2025 promotional event. Even though I offered to pay for the proffie upgrade, the crew at Theory Sabers (looking at you, Nick) gave me the upgrade FOR FREE. While that certainly biases my opinion of the sabers themselves, I would buy them for full price in a heartbeat.

These are my first proffies and you can tell the sound and lighting difference between this and an SNV4 (which i would still absolutely recommend to not break the bank; my Prodigal Son is an SNV4). Even with just the 32" blades, the Shadow Hunter feels like you're welding Maul's iconic weapon. It is perfectly balanced and the utility of being able to turn it into two sabers means you're always ready to spark up a duel with friends.

I ordered an Obi Wan saber last year and had several issues with it. This Maul saber is 10x better in every way. The weight of this saber is perfect, the blades are thinner but still strong and balance the whole thing incredibly. The blade sockets very deep into the hilt so you don't have to worry about it wobbling and throwing off your spins, this was a big problem for my Obi Wan saber which barely sat even an inch into the hilt. The look of this saber, while obviously not exact, is phenomonal and it's very sturdy. I can spin this thing super fast without worry, both when the sabers are connected and especially when seperate and dual wielding. I was spinning it so fast at one point it flew out of my hand and fell on concrete. While it did slightly scuff some of my connecter piece it didn't do any damage to the saber itself. The blade did turn off when it hit the ground, but it was still powered on and it turned right back on no issues. Asthetic buttons do unscrew so tighten often.

It’s a very nice saber (updated!)

Update!! - Theory Sabers customer support was right on top of this and ordered me a replacement stand. As it turns out, when I received my Emperor saber today (absolutely amazing, by the way), I saw the stand had the same “issue” with the same brown side. Stupid me, it’s only then that I realized the brown was on top of the protective plastic. When I removed all of that, it was a beautiful shiny black stand on all sides (and it does appear by design that the Theory plate does not sit flush). I’m sure this was the same for the last stand, and maybe the plastic is the reason it wouldn’t fit in the slot. Regardless, I really appreciate the customer service and the quickness by which they sought to make things right as best they can. I do think that there is a conscious effort to build something special the more Theory Sabers gains momentum and experience. And though I’ll leave a proper review for Emperor, I will say here, if that’s an indication of where Theory Sabers is going, the future looks bright.
I did bump more score from a 3 to a 4. The loose emitter that I had to buy parts for, and the buttons not being able to be screwed in all the way (something they 100% addressed for Emperor) still bring this saber short of a full five. All that said, I would buy from Theory Sabers again.

Original Review - This was the first saber I’ve purchased from Theory Sabers. As a longtime fan of the YouTube content, I was confident in the passion Theory has for everything Star Wars, and so the extras included - the free sound font, the saber stand, etc. along with the bag and collectors box - were a big selling point for me (to a lesser degree, so was the free saber deal which allowed me to gift my friend’s son a cool RGB saber - he loved it of course).
I do love the saber, I’ll say that upfront - and I’m currently waiting on my limited edition Emperor saber in the mail - but I’m going to give this saber 3 stars because I don’t feel I received the white glove experience I was expecting from Theory and for the price.
The saber arrived in a very timely manner, the box was pristine. But the directions were definitely lacking and I had to search through the website and watch a few videos to figure out how to use the saber and take it apart to charge (not a big deal, but weird considering it comes with a booklet of “directions”). The saber does come with a chord to charge, but not a wall plug (and they are very specific about the amperage that YOU must purchase to use with the charger).
Upon examining my saber I found a lot of rattling happening when simply holding it. I come to find out the rattling is from the small buttons and knobs on the saber as they cannot be fully screwed in or else they won’t be “pressable” to activate the saber. Also, to a lesser degree, the red and silver knobs unscrew rather easily, when using the saber (I lost one for a few hours the first time I used it with my friend). But most importantly after identifying the loose buttons, I discovered the real rattling was actually coming from all of the long metal slivers in the emitter. Luckily, I was able to unscrew the emitter (all those pieces fell out as they are not snapped in or attached in any way), but only to find there was a torn O-ring. I went to my hardware store and bought 8x #62 O-rings. I used two to replace the broken ones in the emitters (this solved the rattling completely as #62’s are slightly thicker than what was provided. The other O-rings I used around the handle of the saber as their thickness better matched the look of maul’s saber more so than the thinner ones they provided for you in the bag.
Though I thought that was the last issue, yesterday I finally took the stand out of the box to display my saber, but only to find that the stand (which was black, not the clear one I thought it was coming with) was black everywhere but on one side of the upright - this was still plain particle board. Then the middle part where my silver Theory plate goes was not machined out correctly and so the silver plate does not lay flush with the stand (maybe this is how it’s supposed to be?). Lastly, one upright did not fit into the slot of the stand, and the stand cracked when I tried to force it a little bit (the other one slid right in).
Finally, one odd thing, the blade plugs have the logo on the end, but this allows for dust to get inside the emitter, which I feel like defeats the whole point of having the plugs in the first place.
Overall, I am enjoying the saber. It looks gorgeous, the fonts are fantastic, the color choices, it’s all great. My Makoto is still a lot brighter, but the smooth swing, compactness and ease of access of the proffie sound board is levels above my Makoto.

I think given all the small issues and oversights apparent with my purchase I’m left feeling that it’s a 3/5. I’m curious to see if any similar problems arise with the Emperor saber.

Awesome saber

Absolutely love this saber, that price for both of them is outstanding. Heads up with how they lineup, by default the buttons will be offset, but there is a small metal ring in the center that can be adjusted to fix it.

The Shadow Hunt was good. I got Luke's saber from Episode 6 though and some of the buttons felt like they had been forced in and didn't work properly
